Fandom Clinic, Thursday night

Jenkins had been startled to see a strange pink creature go rushing by the door to his shop, and when he went out to see what was happening, he was nearly trampled by a distressed alot carrying an unconscious woman. It only made sense, then, to assist the poor creatures to the clinic and ensure the unconscious woman got proper care.

It was almost a relief when the alot turned into a blue woman, so he could get some coherent answers.

"While the creatures you're describing are unfamiliar to me, the symptoms of your friend are not. I'll have to do some tests, with your permission, but I suspect the creature may have been trying to feed on her soul."

Raven pressed her hands to her mouth. "Can you -- can you fix it?"

"We'll have to see, my dear. In the mean time, at least you've gotten her to safety."

[clinic is open for any and all getting injured/knocked out tonight! And I should be done spamming the list now. . . .]

Anders dashed to the clinic as soon as he got the message, and was red-faced and out of breath by the time he found Raven.

“What happened?” he asked — demanded, really. “Is she going to be okay?”

Raven had been quietly wishing there was some epic trek she could go on that she could pretend was going to fix Kathy, and digging herself slowly back into the even-more-feral mindset she'd been in on her long walk last year. She startled when Anders arrived, flashing a quick set of very sharp teeth, before getting herself back under control.

"We were celebrating in the preserve," she explained. "And this thing just came out and attacked. I've never seen anything like it. It was like a, a zombie dog on steroids or something."

Anders noticed those teeth, but didn’t particularly care. He wasn’t at his best in the moment either.

He chewed his lip as he came closer to the bed. “Zombie giant dogs,” he said. “Of course. It’s been too quiet for too long, time for something to try to eat us.”

He squinted at Kathy. “Did she lose a lot of blood?”

Raven shook her head, pressing her hand to her mouth again. "No. She hasn't -- it didn't bite her. The man out front said he thought maybe it got to her soul."

“But I don’t think I can do anything about that,” Anders said, sounding fat more distressed. A physical injury was one thing, but a missing soul? That was beyond him as a healer. ”I ... what can we do?”

"You can't?!" Oh, Raven didn't know her voice went high like that. At least without shifting her vocal cords. "Are you sure?"

She couldn't lose Kathy again. She couldn't. She really wasn't sure what she'd do, but it wouldn't be nice at all.

“No,” Anders said, sounding sick. He reached to squeeze Kathy’s hand. “Maybe I should talk to the healer here and see what he thinks. I won’t let her go.”

Raven nodded, trying to swallow against the enormous lump in her throat. "I know," she said, reaching out to touch his arm. "I know you won't. I just -- this is -- it's all a little too familiar. I don't think I can. . . ."

She trailed off, reasonably sure that what she didn't think she could do was written all over her face. She wanted to hunt down the thing that did this to Kathy and tear it to tinier and tinier bits, but she was desperately afraid to leave Kathy's side.

"She can't leave us again," Anders agreed grimly, though he relaxed a bit under Raven's touch. "I'd bathe the whole island in blood before I let that happen."

"You'd have to get in line," Raven said grimly, then pulled her knees up to her chest like someone half her age. "She got an A in her EMT class. That's why we were celebrating."

"Good. I'd want you on my side," Anders said, watching Raven with kind eyes. "And ... it feels weird to say 'good for her,' but good for her. She hadn't told us yet."

A pause, and then he asked "Celebrating how?" -- not because it mattered, but because it seemed like as long as they kept talking he wouldn't cry.

"Soju," Raven said, with a faint sniff and smile. "Lots and lots of soju. She decided to see how much it would take to overload her metabolism."
