FTEC – Saturday [September 20]

Ino was pretty sure that this was going to be a bad day if radio had been anything to go by about how many people had been in and out of the clinic last night.

As such, she didn’t even take out her study materials, but rather busied herself with making sure everything was stocked up and keeping a watchful eye on the door. Ready to help if it was needed.

...she really hoped it wouldn't be needed. Better wasted effort than a lot of patients.

Between the drugs and the blood loss, Romeo needed sleep so his body could continue the work of healing. He was just a bit restless when he woke up later that night.

Yurika had come and gone a few times, to get food and do her 'public service' at the Boardwalk.

Now she was nestled in a chair near him, fitfully flipping through a magazine of some sort.

His eyes opened slowly, and looked almost dull until they caught sight of her.

"Hi."

He was still weak.

"Hi." She was out of the chair in an instant, moving over to half-sit on his bed. "How do you feel?"

He couldn't lie.

"Horrible," was his only answer, as he inclined his head slightly toward her. "Ino did what she could, but she can't heal bone."

"You're lucky she could heal what she did," Yurika snapped, her tone completely at odds with the worried hovering. "I thought you weren't in the tournament, idiot?"

"You. Wanted to talk. With Tybalt? Reasonably?" Yurika wasn't sure if she wanted to laugh or cry, so she settled for shaking her head as she reached over to brush her fingers through his hair. "I love you, but that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard you say, koibito-mine."

"I'm sure you could top it if you thought," Romeo tried, then went quiet.

"He challenged me," he admitted, and it was clear he didn't mean that in the normal sense. "I was angry."

She paused for a moment, the pieces clicking into place. "The bar," she said finally. "Last night. That's what you two were chatting about with those pretty words of yours."

A hesitation, than he nodded. "He didn't just decide to tell me about beaches as a point of general interest," Romeo explained. "And my mentioning a letter was saying I knew what he meant and accepted. At home duels are announced in letters, by tradition."

Yurika's face darkened slightly and she jabbed at his uninjured shoulder with a finger. "Don't you dare try and talk around me like that again!" she hissed. "What if I had my phone off, or Rikku and I didn't find you in time?"

"Then I would have died," Romeo said, rolling his shoulder back and out of her range. "I cannot fear death at the hand of Capulets, and I saw no need to involve others in my dispute. I already lost one friend to that."

Rikku was trying not to hover. She was usually good with not-hovering, but not always.

Romeo gave a tiny smile. "I think I've everything I need, Rikku. But thank you." He indicated the call button. "The nurses are very nice."

After his conversation with Dojima, Rikku's chatter was exactly what Romeo needed.

Even if he suspected it might be prelude to yelling. "What sort of curse?"

She would save the yelling for when he had less holes in him.

"Silencing charm and some kind of tickling curse," she said cheerfully. "He and Dojima were doing sex ed out on the boardwalk and Umbridge showed up. I told him not to taunt the scary, psycho lady, and did he listen to me? No, he did not."

A cough, and Romeo looked more interested. "Umbridge?" he repeated, not knowing the name. "So he's silent and in fits of laughter? And how did the rest of the class go?"

Rikku grimaced. "She was the principal at the end of last summer," she explained. "When Principal Winchester was having her baby. She was evil and crazy and hexed people with weird stuff when they disobeyed, and then she got psycho and started hurting people. I tried to tell him not to taunt her, and then she brought up discipline and he made a crack about whips and chains and -- seriously. He was begging for it."

Romeo's face broke into a broad grin. "I would laugh if I didn't think it would make my shoulder hurt more," he noted. "Horrible, of course, for poor Reno, but it sounds like quite the sight."

"It was hilarious," she giggled. "I don't care if I'm a bad girlfriend for saying that, either. And the sex ed class was safe sex and here, put condoms on bananas. So if anybody starts looking at fruit funny? That's totally their fault."

"I don't thiiiiink so," Romeo said, closing his eyes to consider the banana visual.

It was quite something.

"Medlar are small, like apples, and they have a hollow at the bottom." He gestured to sketch it in the air. "People give them vulgar names." He was fairly certain Rikku would explode from embarrassment if he told her what they were.
