Fandom Clinic, Thursday night

Jenkins had been startled to see a strange pink creature go rushing by the door to his shop, and when he went out to see what was happening, he was nearly trampled by a distressed alot carrying an unconscious woman. It only made sense, then, to assist the poor creatures to the clinic and ensure the unconscious woman got proper care.

It was almost a relief when the alot turned into a blue woman, so he could get some coherent answers.

"While the creatures you're describing are unfamiliar to me, the symptoms of your friend are not. I'll have to do some tests, with your permission, but I suspect the creature may have been trying to feed on her soul."

Raven pressed her hands to her mouth. "Can you -- can you fix it?"

"We'll have to see, my dear. In the mean time, at least you've gotten her to safety."

"Hera!" Summer sat bolt upright, not sure exactly what to do. What she kind of wanted to do, of course, was stand up and rush over and throw her arms around her and hug the crap out of her and apologize (why did she want to apologize? It wasn't her fault, she did everything she could to help, but she still felt so bad, almost guilty that it was even happening at all), but she also knew that if she did that, the she would definitely start crying, and once she started crying, she really doubted she'd be able to stop.

So she just sat there for a moment, fingers nervously scratching at Stance's side, shaking her head, and the moment she opened her mouth, it all just bubbled right out of her. "I don't know," she said. "I don't know what happened, I was on my way to your apartment, actually, I was going to bring you jello, and then I heard Stance barking, and I went to investigate, and...and...and there he was, just pinned down on the street by this...this...this thing, I don't know what it was, a monster or something, and it was on top of him, I don't even know what it was doing, but I got him off, Stance and me, we got him off, but I think it was too late, he wasn't responding, and I had to get help, but I got him here, and...and...and he seems okay, I mean, okay, I guess, all things considered, and...ohmygod, Hera, I'm so sorry."

And, look at that, she started crying anyway, big fat tears rolling unbidden down her face, cutting through some of the jello and other gunk that she'd only barely bothered to try to wipe off. She finished with a small sobbing sound and a sniffle, hugging Stance closer again.

Apparently the clinic was experiencing an influx of patients (that is, more than one), and since he was willing to show up on call, they had called.

He showed up, looked around, got briefed by the nurse, and then went at her suggestion to speak with Jenkins.

"Hello. I'm told you may have more information as to what it is going on?"

"Well. I have some information, certainly," Jenkins said with a shake of his head. "We have four patients thus far, all unresponsive. I suspect the injuries are magical in nature, though I can't guarantee it's not a case of a carpenter with a hammer only seeing nails."

Hera was actually kind of grateful about that; it gave her something to think about apart from Kanan just lying there looking near death.

"It's okay," she reassured Summer, going to wrap an arm around her. She picked up a few towels from the counter and tried wiping off Summer's face. "It'll be okay. There was a monster?"

“But I don’t think I can do anything about that,” Anders said, sounding fat more distressed. A physical injury was one thing, but a missing soul? That was beyond him as a healer. ”I ... what can we do?”

After tucking the knife away, Rosa followed his eyes, and shook her head. "Only when I'm really pissed off," she said. "You wouldn't like me when I'm pissed off."

But she gave the door a lingering second look. "I don't feel that pissed off, though," she said. "Just annoyed. And worried."

Hannibal made a moue of distaste. Honestly, he should try to find magical medical classes. He nodded at Jenkins' last statement, though. "Well, let me see what I can find physically. If a person with a screwdriver still finds the nails, or at best doesn't find any screws...then we may at least be relatively certain."

"Uh-huh," Eric nodded, still looking kind of shaky and wide-eyed. "It tried to attack me, too, but..." he trailed off, still not sure how to explain it.

Sure, plenty of people on this island had superpowers. But he'd never been among them!

"You can't?!" Oh, Raven didn't know her voice went high like that. At least without shifting her vocal cords. "Are you sure?"

She couldn't lose Kathy again. She couldn't. She really wasn't sure what she'd do, but it wouldn't be nice at all.

Summer thought about fighting the urge to just lean into Hera when she put her arm around her, but then decided that, nope, why was she even fighting it, she was just going to give in and let herself be comforted, even if she felt a small nagging in her stomach that she should be comforting Hera, not the other way around, but she was crap at comfort, anyway, so...maybe this was better.

She nodded a little, smiling a sad smile at the clean-up. "Yeah, or something. It was just...gross, just this hulking, skinless....thing. I still don't even know how I got it, I just kicked it and Stance joined it, and then I threw jello in its face, and the jello turned to ice....?"

She shook her head slightly. "Ohmygod, I sound crazy. Am I in shock?"

But her hands still felt cold from the ice. It didn't make any sense. But it had to have been real. It was definitely real when she stabbed the goddamn thing to death. Real, and oh-so-satisfying.

"So it's certainly something different, then," Jenkins said. "Have you encountered anything new? Other than the obvious, of course. Anything that may have triggered a change?"

"But?" Jenkins prompted, reasonably gently. "You certainly seem to be in far better shape."

"Maybe a little? But it is Fandom," Hera said. She dragged another chair nearby and sat just holding Summer. And reached out to take Kanan's hand. "He doesn't look wounded, though? I brought bacta, but I don't see a problem."

"That would be very much appreciated," Jenkins said. "I'm afraid my medical knowledge is . . . let's simply say 'woefully out of date'."

He was very good at the four humors, but no better than a particularly well-read layman with germ theory, for instance.

"It's gonna sound weird," Eric said. "Well, maybe not super-weird, but weird for me. I kinda... electrocuted it, I think? With my hands." As if in response to his words, a shimmer of sparks danced across his fingertips. "I've never done anything like that before."

"I think it's probably internal," Summer said. "I gave him a look-over, too, and, yeah, there's no marks or scratches or bites or anything. Psychic damage, or something. Like...I don't...it was feeding on some sort of lifeforce we can't see."

She shivered a little.

"Or his consciousness, or something. Obviously, it didn't have any effect on Stance. I didn't feel anything like that when I attacked it...but he's not the only one, there's others here, too, and I think they just brought in another one."

Jenkins' eyebrows went up, and he nearly looked excited, despite the grave situation. "Really. I don't suppose you could replicate the effect? Not indoors, of course, but it may help us understand what is going on."

"Uh, sure, I guess?" Eric said with a shrug. "I mean. I could try." Considering he had no idea how he'd made that happen in the first place. Was it possible to acquire magic powers simply due to the fact that he'd lived on a weird magic island for so long?

It was in Jenkins' world! Well, it was possible to absorb magic, anyway, and finding an unusual outlet for it wasn't terribly out of the ordinary either.

"Trying would be greatly appreciated, young man," Jenkins said. "As it is, we only have a few clues to work with to diagnose Fandom's current . . . problem . . . and it seems to be escalating fairly quickly. Yours is the fourth patient tonight."

“No,” Anders said, sounding sick. He reached to squeeze Kathy’s hand. “Maybe I should talk to the healer here and see what he thinks. I won’t let her go.”

Raven nodded, trying to swallow against the enormous lump in her throat. "I know," she said, reaching out to touch his arm. "I know you won't. I just -- this is -- it's all a little too familiar. I don't think I can. . . ."

She trailed off, reasonably sure that what she didn't think she could do was written all over her face. She wanted to hunt down the thing that did this to Kathy and tear it to tinier and tinier bits, but she was desperately afraid to leave Kathy's side.

Hannibal could make some guesses as to what that meant, this being Fandom. "I will see what I can do."

"Thank you. And I'll look into preparing some potential 'hammer' solutions as well."

Hera drew in a sharp breath. That didn't sound good, particularly for a Jedi. "Do the doctors know anything?" There wasn't much bacta could do for that sort of wound.

"That would be welcome," Hannibal said. "I'm afraid I've never had the occasion to learn such skills."
