He'd had a comfortable dinner with Wilson, then retired to the small apartment with Cash. Cash had taken a while to settle down, preferring to run around the apartment and pester House to throw his ball for him. The pair had finally collapsed in the bed, sometime after midnight.

House swung open the clinic doors just after 8 am. He was showered and shaved and breakfasted. Cash had eaten and romped out in the courtyard. It was a rare morning for House, and the clinic was the last place he wanted to be, but there he was. At the desk, sucking on a red lolly while Cash played with the ball at his feet.

Dr is in. Coffee is brewing, Johnny Cash is singing to the waiting room. Come on in. He is still taking blood samples, if anyone is willing to give

"Ah, you're Faithful's Alanna." Susan nodded and said, "And no, he didn't startle me too much." Considering he's the first Talking Animal I've seen in twenty years. "I hope you're also doing well, Faithful."

"Theoretically, it's Alanna's Faithful, but he sort of forgets that usually, ma'am." Alanna smiled. "I'm pretty sure he's asleep." She poked the black fluff-ball. "Yup, out like a light. Lucky thing. How do you like our school, ma'am?"

"I wasn't sure. Cats so often pretend to be sleeping." Susan smiled. "And so far? I haven't seen much. The buildings are lovely, and the people have been welcoming." If very, very odd in some cases. "Do you like working for Dr. House and Dr. Wilson? Are you interested in becoming a doctor yourself?" Susan leaned against the desk, hoping to get to know the girl, especially if she'd be working in the clinic fairly often.

Alanna peered at Faithful. Faithful didn't peer back. "He's asleep. Yes, I do enjoying working for the doctors, contrary to what he might try to say, Dr. House is in fact quite nice, as long as you don't touch his red lolly's." She smiled. "But don't tell him I said that, ma'am. And actually, no, well, I do want to heal, but being a doctor is not my main ambition. I want to be the first female Knight in the past one hundred years, ma'am."

"I'll keep that in mind about the lollies." Susan blinked as Alanna went on, intrigued in spite of the little voice going, Knight? in the back of her head. "A daunting ambition, that. Why haven't there been any female knights for a hundred years?"

"Because girls aren't as strong as boys and without Immortals to fight, there's no need for women in the military." Alanna recited. "Oh, yeah, I'm not from this world, ma'am. Um, think the fourteenth century, only cleaner and with magic. And everyone thinks I'm a guy."

"Immortals? So they've disallowed female enrollment, because of a perceived lack of need? Have they only been around for the last hundred years, then?" Susan smiled. "I assumed you weren't, since Dr. Wilson explained we had several students from other... places. What's yours called?" She held her breath, hoping it wouldn't be obvious that she was waiting for something.

"They've been around for more than that but we're not going to find out just how long until fall of 2008 even though canon was written in 1984 it's just what you said ma'am, no need." Alanna's voice held a bit of anger and resentment in it. "I'm from Tortall."

"That must be frustrating for you," Susan sympathized, let down to hear 'Tortall', but not surprised. "And I admire your dedication to your goal, in spite of the opposition. Is your time here assisting in achieving that?"

"Thank you ma'am." Alanna smiled. "And yes, I'd like to think so. I've learned things here that I wouldn't have gotten a chance to anywhere." "That's for sure." The sleeping Faithful muttered. Alanna glared at him, he smirked.
